Dr. Patty Ahn featured at KCON LA 2019

This year at KCON LA 2019 our own Dr. Patty Ahn sat on three panels discussing their scholarly reflections on “Black American Music and K-Pop,” “Cross Cultural Clashes In Hallyu,” and “We Study Hallyu and You Can Too!”

With a Ph.D. in Critical Studies from the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California, Dr. Ahn studies the political economy and visual politics of South Korea’s pop music export industry also known as K-Pop. Dr. Ahn’s work focuses on the ways in which K-Pop’s marketing and visual culture is currently reshaping how Korea is imagined from a U.S. perspective.

Before joining us, Dr. Ahn was as an Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in the Center for Digital Liberal Arts at Occidental College where they taught experimental practice-based courses on media and social movements and digital storytelling. Dr. Ahn now teaches Media Production courses at the undergraduate and graduate level (COMM 101 and COGR 280) as well as advanced undergraduate seminars (COMM 146) on K-Pop.
